Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About Our Programs & Mission

Do you offer therapy?

Not exactly! While we don’t offer traditional therapy, we provide therapeutic programming, a unique healing experience that fosters deep connections between individuals, nature, and animal companions. Our programs help reduce stress, enhance self-awareness, and promote emotional and physical well-being through sensory engagement, mindful presence, and immersive interactions.

What is AHH’s focus?

Our sanctuary is horse-centered. We prioritize the well-being of our rescue horses while creating meaningful experiences for people. We believe in healing through connection, and our programs are designed to support both humans and animals in a respectful, mindful way.

Visiting & Volunteering

Can I visit the horses on my own?

No, for safety reasons, all visits must be supervised. If you’d like to spend time with our herd, we encourage you to join one of our programs or sign up as a volunteer!

Who can volunteer or visit?
  • Anyone 18+ can volunteer independently.

  • A supervising adult must accompany those under 18 due to insurance requirements.

  • We are located 30 minutes from Minneapolis, MN, on a peaceful farm outside Chaska.

What should I expect during my first visit?
  • Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing—expect to spend time outdoors!

  • Each two-hour visit includes 30 minutes of farm chores, such as gardening, moving hay, or cleaning up. Your help keeps AHH running!

  • Expect to learn something new about yourself through meaningful connections with our horses and nature.

  • Complete a short survey before and after your visit to help us improve our programs.

What are the expectations for volunteers?
  • Every volunteer visit includes 30 minutes of light farm chores to support our sanctuary.

  • If you prefer not to do chores, you can donate $50 per visit.

  • Most importantly—come with an open heart and a willingness to help!

Horses & Their Care

Do you sell your rescue horses?

No, never! Every horse in our care has found their forever home at AHH. Many of our rescues have special needs, and we are committed to providing them with the love, care, and stability they deserve for life.

Can I ride one of AHH’s rescue horses?

No, our rescue horses are not ridden. Many of them have past injuries or special needs that make riding unsafe for them and humans. Plus, we believe in honoring their well-being by allowing them to live freely and comfortably.
