Making Space for Change, So Something New Can Take Root

How do we show up for ourselves and each other… and how do we make space?

As the busy season begins at Art, Heart & Hoofbeats—with new beginnings like our partnership with NAMI MN, new volunteers, and Horse Ambassadors—Fable wanted to reach out… to all of the people who need support or want to help.

"I’m Fable. A Swedish Sport Horse.

I came to AHHS hurt and scarred—untouchable—and when pushed, I struck out at people.

People said I wasn’t safe. That I Would hurt someone. That I might even kill.

They weren’t wrong.

When I was pushed—I pushed back.

Because that’s what survival felt like in my body.

But here’s what changed everything:

They made space for me.

They didn’t rush in.They didn’t force it.They stayed… without asking me to be different.

And slowly…I tried.

Now I stand with people who feel just like I did—

Holding everything tight. Staying just far enough away. Not sure it’s safe to soften.

So I’ll ask you this:

How do you show up for yourself? How do you show up for others? And where could you make just a little more space?

Take a moment with me.

Breathe in. And exhale… slowly. Let your body soften.

You don’t have to fix everything today.

You can just… try. And that is enough.

This space—where horses, art, and nature come together—where hands can move through art when words aren’t enough—only exists because people choose to care."
