We had our very first Art and Wellness Class at AHHS this week, and what a magical start it was! A fantastic group from the Annicca Day Treatment Program through Carver County Mental Health—nine students and four compassionate staff—came out to experience connection, creativity, and calm.
They were welcomed by our warm and enthusiastic team: Brittney Smith, our gifted yoga and sound bath guide; Anne Krocak, leading the art and leadership activities; and Phoenix Anne, our ever-helpful assistant.
From the moment the van doors opened, there was excitement in the air. Laughter echoed across the pastures as students met the horses—some for the very first time. They giggled at the goats’ antics during our nature walk, smiled as they fed treats to the curious chickens and flamboyant peacocks, and stood quietly in awe as the horses came close, offering gentle sniffs and soft nudges of welcome.

In the outdoor studio, students painted vivid neurographic art pieces with watercolor—abstract reflections of their inner landscapes. Their first-ever sound bath was a peaceful, immersive experience that left several students feeling calm, open, and deeply centered- a few feel asleep. Showing the deep calm that our group had found.
When asked what their favorite part of the visit was, a number of students grinned and said:
“Everything was my favorite—meeting the horses, creating art, the sound bath, the nature walk—just all of it.”
There were smiles of love, and a shared sense that the visit ended too soon. Magic filled the air. Laughter bubbled up naturally, and joy—pure and unfiltered—seemed to find a new home in the hearts of these young people.

A heartfelt thank you to the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) and the people of Minnesota, who in 2008 voted to pass the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment. MRAC funding is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Your support makes days like this possible—where nature, animals, and art come together to bring healing, wonder, and belonging to those who need it most.
🌿 Reflection Question:

When was the last time you let wonder lead the way? What happens when you allow yourself to pause, connect, and simply be present with animals, nature, or creativity?
🌬 Short Heart-Centered Meditation:
Take a moment. Close your eyes. Place one hand on your heart, and take a slow breath in through your nose.Exhale gently through your mouth.Imagine standing in a field, surrounded by soft animal sounds, open sky, and the scent of earth and wildflowers. Let the warmth of connection—whether with a horse, a tree, or a brush in your hand—fill your heart. Breathe in love. Breathe out gratitude. Let joy settle gently inside you.
You are home.
